MS and PhD Graduate Assistantships Available
The Social Sciences Department at Michigan Technological University is accepting applications for its MS and PhD programs in Environmental and Energy Policy (EEP). Teaching and research assistantships are available that provide two years of funding for MS students and a minimum of three years of funding for PhD students. The assistantships include a stipend and a tuition waiver. The application deadline is January 15, 2017 for admission in Fall 2017.
The EEP program focuses student course and research projects on environmental and energy issues at regional, national, and international scales. Students are trained in policy processes, environmental governance, and community engagement.
Current funded research projects include: the environmental and social legacies of mining, renewable energy development, forests, biomass and climate change, community engagement in the Superfund process, and participatory GIS mapping of contaminated sites.
The EEP MS program cooperates with VISTA and Office of Surface Mining (OSM/VISTA) to provide students with funding and internships in mining communities on revitalization projects. See the website for details: http://www.mtu.edu/social-sciences/graduate/osm-vista/.
Social Sciences is an interdisciplinary department that supports two graduate programs: EEP and Industrial Heritage and Archeology (IHA). The department provides a range of qualitative, quantitative, and field methodology courses available to students from both programs.. Michigan Tech also has a Great Lakes Research Center that examines water, pollution, and ecological issues.
