ESP Instructor Given Lifetime Achievement Award

Ronald A. Santini ’72 AAS Business Admin, ’74 BS Biological Health, ’86 MEPC, (‘09 MEng GIS University of Colorado) is retired from Duke Energy Corp. where he was an Environmental Scientist and Manager, Environmental Assessments and Monitoring. Currently he is an instructor for Penn State World Campus and as a nature, wildlife and sports photographer.

During Ron’s tenure at Duke Energy Corp. he was responsible for managing activities of environmental scientists and technicians with responsibility for assessing and monitoring Duke Energy surface and groundwater environmental impacts from power generation facilities in the Carolinas. Major accomplishments included installation of the first dedicated groundwater monitoring systems at generating facilities in the Carolinas, implementation of rapid assessment and mobile laboratory activities for contaminated site assessments, part of a technical exchange team evaluating environmental monitoring system at the Zaporoshye Nuclear Generating Complex, Zaporozhye, Ukraine, and project manager overseeing environmental remediation for redevelopment of Potomac Yards, a 330-acre former railroad switching yard and regional rail maintenance facility in Virginia. Previously, Ron held positions with state and federal environmental agencies and numerous environmental and engineering consulting firms in Pennsylvania and the Carolinas. Ron got his start in the environmental field at Lee-Simpson Engineers.

In his current position with Penn State World Campus, Ron teaches Geography, Energy Industry Applications of GIS, and is an instructor/coach for capstone project course, EME Energy and Sustainability in Society.

Ron played basketball at Penn State DuBois and was MVP (’70-’71). He is a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association, a member of the PSAA Charlotte Chapter and a Penn State LionLink Coach. Ron enjoys active sports, coaches and plays basketball, enjoys hiking and spends much of his time on photography projects. He is a member of the Professional Photographers of America and the Carolinas Nature Photographers Association where he serves on their Conservation Committee.
