In the fall of 2015, the Center for Ecological Living and Learning (CELL) set sail from Portland, Maine to embark on a Climate Action Now (CAN) leadership program at colleges along the east coast of the U.S. empowering college students and community members to take action on their campuses and in their local communities to reduce carbon pollution while developing sensible, sustainable alternatives to burning fossil fuel.
CELL works with regional leaders/volunteers from 350.org, Sierra Club, and the Climate Reality Project to pull together the logistics for our workshop/training sessions. Students, college professors and staff, and community members interested in taking action on climate change will be invited to attend the climate action workshop.
In 2016, CELL will continue this tour by visiting cities in the east, including Boston, New York City, Lancaster, PA, and Washington, DC.
At each stop (city) along the Climate Action Now leadership program, CELL, along with our partners and sponsors, will host a one day (Saturday) workshop/training, including:
- An opening session spurring your participation in the climate action movement;
- Activist/leadership training session to prepare participants with practical tools for climate activism;
- Interactive breakout sessions to develop climate action plans to reduce carbon pollution on campuses and in communities;
- Interactive breakout sessions to explore in depth actions and leadership roles that students can take to reduce carbon pollution, and
- Networking opportunities with other student and environmental groups.
On October 29, 2016, CELL’s CAN program will be hosted by Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA.
At this time, we'd like to invite you to "save the date" for the event; more details about the conference, and possibilities for your involvement, will be forthcoming.
