Job Title: Policy Associate  

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Position Type: Full-time 

 

Responsibilities

 

The Policy Associate will work with and support the Senior Policy Associate in all aspects of KEEA’s policy initiatives.  The Policy Associate will perform policy writing, conduct research and analysis, assist with internal and external communications, engage businesses (both KEEA members and non-members), participate in coalitions with external partner groups, and engage in direct advocacy.

KEEA has been advancing and defending state and federal energy policy through the tactics mentioned above.  The Policy Associate will focus on 1-2 priority campaigns in KEEA’s policy portfolio, to be determined.

Work products will include assisting in drafting testimony; preparing comments for submission to state decision makers; developing strategy documents to influence decision makers; organizing lobby days, business roundtables, and district meetings with legislators; producing sign-on letters and media pieces; and conducting research to guide KEEA’s policy agenda into the future.

 

Qualifications

 

Relevant educational and/or professional experience in advocacy, research, utilities, government, energy efficiency business, energy policy, public policy, or law.

The ideal candidate will have many of the personal and professional skills to be successful in this role, including:

 

  • Persuasive written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong technical research and quantitative analysis skills in energy and economics.
  • Expertise in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as, on teams.
  • Familiarity with utility regulation, rate-making, industrial energy efficiency, energy efficiency programs and technology, utility and advanced energy business models, and energy and climate change policy.
  • Experience in, or knowledge of, Pennsylvania-specific energy efficiency and energy policy issues, including Act 129, utility regulation, and environmental policy.
  • Experience in, or knowledge of the EPA Clean Power Plan, New York’s Reforming the Energy Vision, and other leading national initiatives.
  • Ability to foster and grow relationships with key partners and businesses.
  • Creative problem solving abilities, including in the development and execution of marketing programs and advocacy strategy.
  • Vision and a tireless work ethic. You are inspired and driven by being part of a hard-working team.
  • Demonstrated ability in generating revenue for your work.

Job Title: Policy Intern  

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Position Type: Part-time 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Finalize grant deliverables
  • Perform analysis on the benefits of energy efficiency, including economic growth, reduced energy costs for all consumers, and public and environmental health.
  • Research, write, and present on energy efficiency policy issues in Pennsylvania.
  • Engage KEEA’s members and allies in advocacy.
  • Assist with development of factsheets, publications, and media pieces.
  • Research current legislation and regulation in development at the city and state level in Pennsylvania.
  • Assist with event planning, including educational events and lobby days.

 

Qualifications

 

Seeking graduate student or highly qualified undergraduate/recent graduate with a strong demonstrated interest and experience in the energy, economic, and/or environmental field(s). Successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent organizational skills, and a background as a self-starter.

Job Title: Policy Fellow  

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Position Type: Summer 2016 

 

Responsibilities

 

The Policy Fellow will collaborate with KEEA’s staff, business members and key partners including business and environmental advocacy organizations, electric and gas utility energy efficiency program managers, state and city government officials, the Public Utility Commission, the Department of Environmental Protection, and elected officials. A key component of the position will be designing and drafting communications, managing relationships to educate key policy-makers and the public on energy efficiency issues, organizing meetings and events, and analyzing data.

 

Responsibilities will include organizing, outreach, advocacy, and analysis in the following areas:

 

  • Utility energy efficiency policies, cost-benefit studies, and program development.
  • Electric and gas utility incentive regulation.
  • Energy efficiency in EPA’s Clean Power Plan.
  • Energy efficiency in the commercial and industrial sector.
  • Other advanced energy policies.

 

Qualifications

 

0-5 years of relevant professional experience in the utility or energy efficiency industry. Pursuing graduate degree in business, energy, environmental management, public policy, or law.

 

The ideal candidate will have the personal and professional skills to advance KEEA’s objectives, including:

 

  • Persuasive written and oral advocacy skills, particularly communicating technical and analytical information clearly and persuasively.
  • Strong technical research, analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on coalitions and teams.
  • Familiarity with public policy, especially utility regulation, energy efficiency programs and technology, and energy and climate change policy.
