Climate Resiliency Specialist

Responsibilities: 

The Port Authority Engineering Department seeks qualified candidates for the position of Climate Resiliency Specialist (CRS). Reporting to the Assistant Chief, Resilience and Sustainability, the CRS is responsible for the coordination and implementation of the agency's design strategy for climate resilience. She/he will coordinate multi-departmental stakeholders, assist project teams with integrating resiliency strategies throughout capital projects, agency-wide resiliency efforts and climate risk assessments. 

The CRS will assist project teams to incorporate resiliency guidance, coordinate cost benefit analysis to implement appropriate strategies and track project performance. He/she will also develop outreach programs related to current resiliency design and climate risk mitigation strategies to build internal capacity among engineers, architects and project teams. Responsibilities include updating internal guidance by reviewing current resiliency standards, guidelines and best practices developed by public agencies and industry organizations. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate incorporation of Climate Resilience Guidelines for agency projects and programs
  • Coordinate climate risk assessments
  • Develop staff awareness program for Climate Resilience Guidelines
  • Provide updated climate resilience guidance through outreach to the industry
Qualifications: 

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture or related Environmental/Sustainability degree relevant to climate risk management from an accredited college or university.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of climate resiliency with 5-7 years experience in climate impacts and/or adaptation field. Experience with climate risk assessments and knowledge of local/regional climate resiliency initiatives with complementary expertise in natural resource management, and/or land use or urban planning.
  • Independent worker with well-developed time management skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with respect to timeline(s).
  • Organized, detail oriented, and experience managing consultants and ability to handle multiple assignments in a vibrant, busy environment
  • Possess valid driver's license
Desired: 

Ideal candidates will present the following profile: 

  • P.E. or R.A license in either New York or New Jersey
  • Knowledge of visual mapping tools (GIS), including ability to utilize data and analytical tools and applications
  • Experience developing staff awareness and outreach programs
  • Superior oral and written communication and presentation skills including experience making presentations in front of client groups and upper management staff
  • Demonstrated team building, problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, as well as the demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and function in a team environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
