System Operator Position Opening - San Francisco, CA

Reporting to the Director of Energy Operations, NaturEner seeks to hire a System Operator to observe, monitor, report, and manage real-time operations from the NaturEner Operations Center. 

  • Serve as the company’s representative for all operational projects from 24/7 real-time desk
  • Ensure the operating projects and balancing authority remain compliant with NERC  and WECC reliability standards
  • Ensure the operating projects fulfill commercial obligations.
  • Liaison between regulatory and commercial partners to ensure proper balance and optimization of assets given constraints
  • Schedule all energy as appropriate with counterparties
  • Forecast energy production as appropriate to off-take arrangements
  • Facilitate transmission sales and purchases through OASIS
  • Support voltage control and other generator operator functions
  • Support the operations and maintenance activities by actively managing plant availability and reliability 
  • Perform scheduling services for other projects
  • Perform reporting/settlement duties and additional energy operations projects as requested
  • Will be expected to gain NERC system operator certification within  12 months from start of hire

Job Requirements

  • Degree (AA/BA/BS) in energy studies, meteorology, economics, business,  engineering or other relevant degree
  • Preference for experience in the power business, energy markets, real time operations, or weather forecasting
  • High degree of motivation to learn balancing, compliance, scheduling, and operations of wind projects
  • Solid analytical skills and excellent computer capabilities, experience with power  IT systems (SCADA, EMS, Versify, etc.) preferred
  • Preference for familiarity with energy markets (WECC preferred), operations and maintenance, or wind forecasting and scheduling
  • Preference for Knowledge and experience with power plant generation, transmission, or power scheduling experience
  • Strong business acumen and attention to detail
  • Multi-tasking and adaptable to change
  • Adept and experienced in working in a teamwork environment
  • Sharp, intuitive, quick witted, and able to work independently
  • Forecasting and scheduling experience
  • 24-hour operations and flexible work scheduling
