Manager, Member Relations & Exhibitions

The Manager, Member Relations & Exhibitions will report to the Senior Director, Member Relations and work to enhance association revenue streams from the sales of memberships, exhibit space, sponsorships, and advertising. This position is expected to lead sales and outreach by managing key industry segments that will create meaningful brand value propositions for members via sponsorship, exhibition and membership, and ensure a holistic approach to all goals and objectives are maintained.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the AWEA relationship key industry segments by: (1) Conducting regular outreach to member segments, maintaining value proposition of AWEA targeted and relevant to specific key industry segments, ensuring thorough member engagement, providing information as appropriate and selling of all AWEA solutions (products) to generate revenue. (2) Developing materials, messaging, and other content required to successfully conduct member recruitment, retention and other revenue generating activities targeting key industry segments. (3) Analyzing and evaluating effectiveness of sales, methods and related cost to the results.
  • Serving as department liaison to committees relevant to key industry segments providing support for committee work product, conducting outreach as needed, attending meetings, etc.
  • Develop and implement new initiatives (new services, products, etc.) as needed with the objective of increasing membership and revenue.
  • Find and develop new members within key industry segments to build a broader industry community and grow the membership base.
  • Provide thorough and outstanding customer service to both external and internal customers.
  • Maintain thorough records within Personify and provide appropriate documentation to finance for sales activities.
  • Ensure timely payment of all invoices and conduct collections efforts as needed among key industry segments.
  • In collaboration with the SVP, manage the Exhibitor Council communications, meeting schedules, new council member rotations to advance policies that support the needs and interests of key industry segments.
  • In collaboration with marketing team, manage communications with AWEA’s exhibitors before, after, and during both AWEA and non-AWEA events, providing updates with the latest relevant information and/or follow up on previous discussions, acting to resolve any issues related to their participation in AWEA events as needed.
  • Work with the exhibition’s General Contractor to determine exhibit move-in/out operations schedule, ensure accuracy and prompt appropriate distribution of Exhibitor Manual and other relevant information (inclusive of all official vendors), and determine the best exhibit hall layout, maximizing space and ease of navigation for the next year’s WINDPOWER exhibition.
  • Maintain and update as needed the Exhibit Display Rules and approve or decline booth design requests inclusive of suggesting best approaches for exhibitor booth designs to be permitted within the guidelines.

AWEA is a fast-paced, high-energy organization with a very ambitious agenda and staff that is highly motivated. This position may experience high work demands under tight timelines and multitasking abilities will be necessary.  Occasional travel, including weekends, is required.  This position will frequently interact with internal AWEA staff, members, and existing and potential exhibitors.  Incumbent will have key customer service contact responsibility for exhibit and sponsorship sales, responding to questions and concerns, generating leads and resolving conflict regarding exhibit location assignments or exhibit display rule violations.  Strong communication, organizational and management skills are critical elements for this position.

Qualified applicants may possess any combination of education and experience enabling them to successfully perform the responsibilities of the position.  Preferred qualifications are: Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related field and 4-6 years of progressively responsible, directly related experience at a trade association, exhibit management company or related organization focused on marketing, sales, and trade show/exhibitions; CEM and/or CMP certifications.   Applicants must be detail-oriented, proficient in MS Office, have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), and possess excellent working knowledge of accepted sales principles and practices.  Experience with Personify, Map Your Show (MYS), and fluency in other languages (Mandarin Chinese, Korean, German, Portuguese, or Spanish) is a plus.
