The Penn State Center for Sustainability, the Department of Mathematics, and the Eberly College of Science Center for Excellence in Science Education present a workshop on Multidisciplinary STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Engagement through Sustainability Education Sept. 13-14, on Penn State's University Park Campus with invited guest Thomas Pfaff, associate professor of mathematics and co-director of Multidisciplinary Sustainability Education Project, Ithaca College.
This workshop is intended for faculty members and graduate students who wish to teach sustainability concepts as part of their own courses, and for education faculty and students who are interested in how sustainability concepts can be taught within STEM coursework. Other interested faculty members and students are encouraged to attend the workshop.
Discussion topics will include and overview of concepts of sustainability and why this topic is appropriate for STEM classes, as well as specific examples of how to include sustainability in mathematics, sciences, engineering and technology courses. Participants will have a chance to work on lessons or modules for their own classes.
Thursday morning events in Math will be held in 114 McAllister and the workshop will be held in 215 Armsby. Friday morning discussions will be held in 016 Ritenour.
