Common Thread CSA is a 17-acre vegetable farm in Central New York that grows mixed vegetables for CSA, farmers markets and some wholesale. We are a family farm run by two farmers with over 20 years of experience each who enjoy sharing what we know with and learning from our farm crew. Our scale allows motivated employees to learn and practice a wide variety of skills. We prioritize soil health, using a permanent raised bed tillage system and planting about half the farm to cover crops. We work to make our food accessible to all by running a sponsored share program and donating food. We work to build a positive and safe workplace and welcome diversity of race, sex, sexual orientation, gender, age, family status and religion. We take COVID seriously on the farm and take all precautions to keep our staff and members safe.
Apprentice and Summer Intern Positions
Learn how the farm works from seed to distribution by participating in greenhouse work, transplanting, cultivation, harvesting, wash and pack, farmers markets, CSA distribution, tractor operations and more. In addition to hands on training in the fields, we hold biweekly education sessions on topics such as soil management, business planning, crop planning as well as field trips to other farms. Apprenticeship run April through November. Internships run late May through mid to late August. We encourage successful apprentices and interns to stay on in positions of greater responsibility the following season. Compensation includes training, $12.50-$13.00/hour, a CSA share and sick pay in accordance with NYS law. We can provide assistance in finding housing nearby. Applicants should have at least 2 months experience working on a vegetable farm (or other comparable field such as landscaping or restaurant work), ability to work in all weather conditions and be physically able to complete a season of farm work, a valid driver’s license, a positive attitude and good communication skills.
