Virginia Field Coordinator (Entry Level)

Location:  Charlottesville, VA

Appalachian Voices seeks a dynamic, passionate, and strategic Field Coordinator to build statewide grassroots power and engagement in Virginia. The Field Coordinator will work to empower and activate communities in opposing the development of new fossil fuel infrastructure and in pursuing a cleaner, more affordable, and more just energy system. Based out of our Charlottesville, VA office, the Field Coordinator will work to increase public awareness of energy issues impacting the lives of Virginians and expand grassroots support for energy policies that promote healthy communities in the Commonwealth.

The successful applicant will have a desire to begin or continue developing their social-impact career by bringing people together with purpose. They will maintain commitments to both clean energy and environmental justice. They will use equitable and inclusive practices in their work to build power from the ground up.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a range of grassroots advocacy activities that meet the diverse needs and interests of residents across Virginia to oppose new fossil fuel infrastructure and promote a more just and equitable energy system
  • Build relationships with community members and key partners through formal and informal coalitions
  • Plan and execute public events designed to educate communities and foster dialog on energy issues impacting Virginia, including community meetings, presentations, workshops, town halls, petition drives, press conferences, etc.
  • Promote civic engagement on legislation, regulations, and permit applications in order to advance the goals of the Virginia program
  • Organize and facilitate meetings and calls
  • Work with the communications team to utilize traditional media, social media, and other electronic communications to mobilize our membership
  • Recruit and manage a team of interns and volunteers
