Job Description

The Complex Systems Simulation and Optimization Group in the NREL Computational Science Center has an opening for a graduate student researcher in vehicles simulation with special emphasis on sensor processing and fusion and downstream control. The researcher with work on modifying and creating algorithms in the CARLA vehicle-simulation package to implement novel perception and control algorithms.

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated researcher with a strong technical background and an interest in the mission of NREL. The successful candidate will collaborate with NREL staff and researchers to design and implement infrastructure perception and control models and simulations to enable traffic control and inform transportation planning decisions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with NREL researchers to understand the structure of CARLA client API, with a focus on code that is relevant to sensors and image processing.
  • Research and improve state-of-the-art sensor-to-occupancy-grid algorithms.
  • Modify and create infrastructure-based sensor logic for implementing new control algorithms.
  • Author, present and assist in the preparation of technical papers, reports and conference proceedings.
