General Position Summary:

The Analyst role supports AWEA’s analytical agenda through collection and analysis of wind industry market data as well as general research and policy analysis. The Analyst collects and manages industry data through broad research methods, AWEA member contact, and smart database management. The Analyst will also develop and use quantitative modeling tools, data visualization, and presentations to inform and support AWEA’s state and federal policy advocacy. The Analyst supports AWEA’s strategic goal of remaining an authoritative source of information and industry data for association members and the general public.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

Wind Industry Data Collection

  • Day-to-day collection and maintenance of AWEA’s wind project and manufacturing data. Focus on existing and planned wind power projects, wind power purchase agreements, M&A activity, wind Requests for Proposals, turbine orders, wind industry supply chain facilities, utility integrated resource plans, and other key data items.
  • Create data dashboards, data products and data visualization to inform of the organization’s activities.
  • Collect industry information from sources including the Energy Information Administration, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, state utility regulators and AWEA member outreach.

Wind Industry Market Reports and Analysis

  • Provide technical and development support for the publication, distribution, and communication of additional market and policy reports, including the AWEA U.S. Wind Industry Annual Market Reports.
  • Perform data queries and complete analysis for policy and market reports, collateral, and similar requests.
  • Contribute written analysis to fact sheets, market reports, blog posts, and other communications as needed.
  • Assist with responding to data inquiries from across Government and Public Affairs department, AWEA members, regional partners, and others.

Policy Analysis, Expertise, and Advocacy

  • Perform analyses that support AWEA’s policy agenda at state, regional, and federal levels on strategic issue areas
  • Monitor policy and market development to inform analytical tasks. Report developments to wider Government and Public Affairs department, as appropriate.
  • Perform research and analysis in areas such as: market economics, technology evolution, electric sector data, emissions, regulatory issues, utility data, etc.
  • Contribute to collateral, infographics, PowerPoint presentations, and other informational and advocacy materials.

Interpersonal Contacts:

This role interacts with all AWEA departments but primarily the greater Government and Public Affairs Department and Member, Value and Experience Department. The position also interacts frequently with AWEA members, including wind energy companies in the course of surveying for market information, as well as other research entities such as academic institutions and government agencies.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Strong quantitative analysis skills. Routinely work with large, complex datasets.
  • Attention to detail and strong data management skills. The ideal candidate must enjoy collecting, curating, and working with large amounts of data.
  • Strong written and oral communication, with the ability to tailor information to audiences of varying technical capabilities.
  • Ability to use spreadsheet and presentation software, including Excel and PowerPoint. InDesign experience a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete a variety of tasks efficiently.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

A B.A. or B.S. degree required. A major in a quantitative field such as economics, statistics, or engineering preferred. Experience in and working understanding of U.S. electricity sector preferred.
