Federal Affairs Internship

American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) is seeking a Federal Affairs intern who will report to the Associate, Federal Affairs. The internship will focus on achieving positive legislative and policy outcomes in Congress and the Administration that will result in deployment of more wind energy. The Federal Affairs Intern will support some of the administrative needs of the team, as well as be responsible for special projects. The intern will work on both long term projects as well as time-sensitive issues, as they arise. This is an internship opportunity with a $3,000 stipend.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to federal legislative affairs team.
  • Provide scheduling coordination for meetings and appointments.
  • Attend and/or monitor hearings related to Federal Affairs issues.
  • Create and compile materials for Hill Outreach.
  • Produce written summaries and reports.
  • Manage special Federal Affairs projects.
  • Assist with event planning and support.
  • Assist with administrative support and other office duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

AWEA is a fast-paced, high-energy organization with a very ambitious agenda and a staff that is highly motivated. This internship may experience high work demands under tight timelines. Requirements include strong oral, written and interpersonal skills; a demonstrated ability to be extremely organized, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines; an ability to identify problems, research alternatives and resolve them; good judgment and intuition; strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills; the ability to develop, manage and/or revamp projects independently; and the ability to adapt and respond quickly to change. Ability to work collaboratively with others. Supportive approach to all situations and a positive team member.

Education and/or Experience

AWEA is seeking applicants whom reflect and understand our core values: We HEART Wind Energy, The Truth Prevails, Together We Succeed, and Ahead of the Curve. Qualified applicants may possess any combination of education and experience enabling them to successfully perform the responsibilities of the position. Applicants should be pursuing either a masters or undergraduate degree in political science, environmental or energy policy, or a related field.

Federal Affairs Intern Will Receive:

  • Laptop; workstation; direct access to learning industry data.
  • $100 MetroCard
  • $3,000 stipend (paid in five installments).
