AWEA Program Associate, WSA

American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) seeks a Program Associate to provide program and administrative support to the Wind Solar Alliance (WSA), a nonprofit organization co-located with AWEA. The Program Associate is expected to focus on implementing WSA’s research and communication strategies as well as ensuring the effective administration of the organization. This position reports to WSA’s Executive Director.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Executive Director in research, writing, and publishing educational materials for WSA’s advocacy campaigns, including reports, opinion columns, fact sheets and social media posts.
  • Assist with presentations for internal and external stakeholders, draft and edit written memoranda, speaking points, letters and other internal/external communications.
  • Assist with maintaining WSA’s website, including researching, writing, editing, fact checking, formatting, and adding photos and videos.
  • Provide program support for consultants in the field and ensure deliverables and deadlines are met.
  • Assist with maintaining advocate database.
  • Plan and execute logistics for workshops, fundraisers, receptions and board meetings.
  • Assist Executive Director in formulating and writing grant proposals for funders.
  • Record, code and ensure timely payment of invoices and other expenses.
  • Assist the Executive Director in tracking deadlines, coordinating travel and meetings, and managing WSA’s schedule.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and finance team to track and manage program budgets, ensuring on-budget project completion.
  • Manage subscriptions and contracts, complete shipments and mailings, order supplies, set up meetings, including audio-video and catering as needed.
  • Assist with the production of WSA’s newsletter and other marketing materials.
  • Organize and maintain WSA’s files (all files are digital).
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Familiarity with the nation’s shift to renewable energy and delivering solutions for climate change. Critical thinker, identify problems, research alternatives and resolve them.
  • Highly organized self-starter who is detail-oriented with the ability to effectively prioritize and complete a variety of tasks efficiently. Flexibility and ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Technical writing and editing skills, making complicated material clear for a variety of audiences.
  • A high level of interpersonal skills in order to interact effectively with a wide range of people including other AWEA/WSA staff, AWEA members, federal agency staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively as a team player, while also identifying and resolving problems independently.
  • Some travel required.

Education and/or Experience

Qualified applicants may possess any combination of education and experience enabling them to successfully perform the responsibilities of the position. Bachelor’s degree in any related field with 1 year minimum of relevant experience related to energy policy, advocacy or non-profit organizations. Proficiency with MS Office Suite, WordPress, MailChimp, and Trello are strongly preferred.
