Associate, Government and Regulatory Affairs - Austin, TX

About the Position:

As an Associate, Government & Regulatory Affairs you will be responsible for helping lead Invenergy's advocacy, outreach and engagement with policymakers and industry stakeholders and represent Invenergy with ERCOT, PUCT, executive and legislative bodies, and regional trade associations on behalf of its operating portfolio and pipeline of development projects in Texas. You will be responsible for the development, advocacy, implementation and monitoring of policies, legislation and market rules as they apply to the construction, interconnection, and operation of generation projects.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Monitor market rule changes or projects initiated at ERCOT and PUCT, assist in identifying impacts to operating portfolio and development pipeline, and advocate for positions in the best interest of the company
  • Attend and Provide notes from relevant ERCOT meetings and PUCT hearings
  • Interpret rule change proposals and comments for internal personnel
  • Communicate detail on discussions and rule change proposals to relevant internal stakeholders and solicit feedback where appropriate
  • Advocate verbally at ERCOT meetings and PUCT hearings
  • Draft written comments on rule changes or projects at ERCOT 
  • Build relationships with other stakeholders, system operator staff, and region trade organizations, etc.
  • Monitor trade organization activity and participate in trade organization meetings and calls
  • Participate in coalitions of peer companies on issue-focused topics impacting the broader industry
  • Provide quarterly updates to business development, origination and asset management
  • Collaborate with the other Gov & Reg Affairs team members in other regions

 

Requirements: 

  • BS or BA in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or Government (policy related) 
  • Base knowledge of ERCOT electricity markets (day ahead, real time, ancillary services, etc.)
  • Travel required
  • Strong analytic skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong ability to learn and utilize enterprise software systems
  • Base knowledge of Texas utility regulatory environment
  • Knowledge of organized power and wholesale markets

 

Preferred: 

  • 1-3 years prior experience working for a system operator, regulatory agency, independent power producer or utility
  • Advocacy experience in a regulatory environment
