Feb. 26 - No Ordinary Lawsuit: Protecting our climate and democracy

02/27/2019 (All day)

Please join us in person or via livestream on February 26 to hear Julia Olson speak at Dickinson College about the landmark lawsuit in which 21 youth plaintiffs are suing the U.S. government for their right to a safe climate. The plaintiffs, who include a Dickinson student, maintain that the U.S. government is violating their constitutional rights to life, liberty, and property through actions that cause climate change and through its failure to protect essential public trust resources.

Julia Olson, Executive Director of Our Children’s Trust (OCT) and lead attorney for the plaintiffs, and other representatives of OCT, will be in residence at Dickinson College for the lecture, advocacy workshop and other activities. They are recipients of the 2018 Rose-Walters Prize at Dickinson College for Global Environmental Activism.

The lecture is open to the public and can also be watched via LIVESTREAM HERE.

OCT “elevates the voice of youth to secure the legal right to a stable climate and healthy atmosphere for the benefit of all present and future generations. Through our programs, youth participate in advocacy, public education and civic engagement to ensure the viability of all natural systems in accordance with science. Our mission is to protect earth’s atmosphere and natural systems for present and future generations. We lead a game-changing legal campaign seeking systemic, science-based emissions reductions and climate recovery policy at all levels of government. We give young people, those with most at stake in the climate crisis, a voice to favorably impact their futures.”
