Role and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Relations, the Manager – Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs, USA will work closely with the Senior Director – Head of USA and will include cross-functional responsibilities in the areas of legislation portfolio management, legislation advocacy and education, constituent and external affairs. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with the following key skills/capabilities:

The main responsibilities are as follow:

  • Manage legislative and regulatory issues within specified U.S. geographic regions for projects under development by Innergex Renewables USA LLC (INE);
  • Execute legislative and regulatory strategies to achieve the company’s project development objectives;
  • Create advocacy materials related to INE’s development, construction and operating projects;
  • Develop policy arguments and position papers on legislation and regulatory issues;
  • Evaluate political landscape associated with legislative and regulatory proposals and issues;
  • Coordinate communication on key issues, outcomes and strategies related to legislation and regulatory activities;
  • Identify public relations risks and opportunities and build and implement outreach and engagement strategies;
  • Review and analyze regulators and legislator’s interests in the Project’s area;
  • Provide responses to requests for information, analysis, site visits and operational information;
  • Lead direct advocacy and education activities with legislators and regulators, their staff, and external stakeholders in support of project and corporate interests;
  • Represent INE to external stakeholders to ensure that project and corporate agendas, messages, initiatives, interests, and goals are me;
  • Effectively build diverse external stakeholder coalitions;
  • Represent INE with regards to relevant trade associations;
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulations, standards, and best management practices of the renewable energy industry;
  • Assist
  • Other tasks to support the activities of the Vice President, Corporate Relations and Senior Director – Head of USA, as required.

Profile

  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing renewable energy industry regulatory, legislative strategies and policies. Experience gathering documents, performing analyses, and drawing conclusions on legislative and regulatory policies.
  • Effective communicator who can deliver compelling arguments that address the needs of diverse audiences;
  • Relationship builder skilled at developing collaborative partnerships and cultivating networks internally and externally;
  • Strategic influencer seen as a trusted advisor and credible thought leader with policy makers and staff.
  • Solid organizational skills, proactivity and meticulousness
  • Excellent interpersonal and effective communication skills (verbal, written, presentation);
  • Capacity to work under pressure with tight deadlines in the context of changing priorities;
  • Proven ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams and interact with diverse stakeholders;
Requirements

	

Professional Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Public Administration, Communications, Business, Economics or related field.
  • Five or more years of experience in the legislative, public affairs, government affairs, broad issues management or communications arenas in which duties include energy policy analysis, advocacy and/or written and verbal communication with elected officials and staff.
  • Thorough understanding of the renewable energy industry and energy issues throughout the United States.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project and PowerPoint).
  • May require lobbyist registration.
  • Experience in dealing with highly sensitive, political inquires through coordination and extensive communications.
  • Available for domestic and North America travel about 30% of the time.
