THE ORGANIZATION:
The Power of Wind program is a bipartisan action project of the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA). AWEA is the national trade association for the U.S. wind industry. AWEA is a fast-paced, high-energy organization with a very ambitious agenda and staff that is highly motivated. With thousands of wind industry members and wind policy advocates, AWEA promotes wind energy as a clean source of electricity for American consumers. Power of Wind is committed to growing a vibrant volunteer network of advocates committed to forwarding wind energy. 

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Power of Wind program is seeking a passionate, entrepreneurial, experienced organizer committed to empowering others to make a difference with their voices as citizens.  The internship will last six months, with an option to extend for another six month term. The position requires a significant amount of cold-calling and a candidate who is outgoing, persistent, personable, organized, and determined.  The candidate must have excellent written and verbal communications skills. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Online and Community Engagement, responsibilities include: 

Recruiting grassroots supporters: The Grassroots Intern will be trained in: 1) identifying top grassroots advocates, 2) securing partnerships, and 3) digital advocacy.

Supporting grassroots: The Grassroots Intern will be trained to assist with: 1) organizing the logistics, content, and inspiration for the monthly conference calls/webinars, 2) leading monthly group leader calls, and 3) preparing and distributing monthly Action Sheets and other materials. 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Education and/or Experience: AWEA is seeking applicants whom reflect and understand our core values: We HEART Wind Energy, The Truth Prevails, Together We Succeed, and Ahead of the Curve. Qualified applicants may possess any combination of education and experience enabling them to successfully perform the responsibilities of the position. Qualifications are:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, environmental science, or communications preferred.

  • Experience in community organizing, student groups, political campaigns, and/or other advocacy groups.

  • Knowledge of renewable energy policy at the state and federal level.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Self-starter, great on the phone and in front of a room, is inspiring or excited about learning to be more inspiring, loves the vision, values practicing as a way of improving skills, and wants to empower people to make the difference.
Flexible: able to wear many hats as part of a small, fast-moving team, and is excited about a young game-changing program.  Excellent collaboration skills and a good sense of humor.
Cares deeply about Power of Wind’s mission of empowering volunteers to inspire local, state and federal officials to promote wind energy as a clean source of electricity for American consumers.
