PA Groundwater Symposium - State College, PA

Penn Staters to present at Pennsylvania Groundwater Symposium
The symposium will be held on May 8, 2013 at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel and will include the following presentations by Penn Staters:

  • Bryan Swistock, senior extension associate and organizer of the symposium, will give the Opening Welcome;
  • Dick Parizek. professor of geosciences and geoenvironmental engineering, will deliver the Morning Plenary Session “Penn State’s Living Filter System: A 43-Year Perspective;”
  • Zhang Cai, graduate student in Energy and Mineral Engineering, and Li Li, assistant professor of energy and mineral engineering, will give the talk “Potential Impacts of Flowback Water Leakage from Marcellus Shale on Groundwater Composition;”
  • Lara Fowler, adjunct professor with the Dickinson School of Law and research fellow with PSIEE, will give the talk “Exempt Groundwater Wells – Law and Policy Lessons Learned From The Pacific Northwest;” and
  • Susan Brantley, distinguished professor of geosciences and director of the EMS Earth and Environmental Systems Institute, will deliver the Afternoon Plenary Session “Using the Shale Network Database to Investigate Water Quality and Quantity in Areas of the Marcellus Energy Resource.”
